The CFW-1012M is a high-resolution grayscale digital camera well suited to a variety of bright-field and low-light scientific imaging applications. The CCD sensor of the CFW-1012M employs the widely used Bayer color filter arrangement. The camera interfaces with both desktop and notebook computers through the convenient IEEE-1394 or FireWire interface. The CFW-1012M has a large 1024 x 768 pixel resolution with a dynamic range of 12 bits. Images may be saved in either 8, 10, or 12 bit formats. The frame rate of a full size image is a maximum of 15 frames per second. Analog gain control with amplification of low-level signals up to 100 times is provided. Also provided is exposure control with exposures from 10 ms to 100 s supported. The CFW-1012M is suitable for both low-light and bright-field grayscale video microscopy, as well as photo documentation and publishing applications. The CFW-1012M comes with several software support options. Scion VisiCapture is a full-featured application for controlling the camera and capturing and saving images. Also provided is a TWAIN module for using the camera inside of popular applications such as Adobe Photoshop. Plug-in support is also provided for the popular ImageJ program. The CFW-1012M requires a personal computer running Windows 2000 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.2 or higher. The computer requires an IEEE-1394 port, also known as FireWire or iLink. Effective frame rate is computer dependent. For best results on Windows, a Pentium IV or better computer with at least 256 Mb of RAM is recommended.
